Saying goodbye to Daddy

Steve had to go back to West Africa in late April, then Timothy and Beth stayed in Texas until early June.

My friend Kelly's daughter Evelyn is eleven weeks older than Tim. They enjoyed playing together several times while we were in Texas.

California

Here we are with Grandpa and Grandma at Aunt Anna Marie's and Uncle Richard's house in California.

Guatemala

We spent a week in Guatemala for Steve's brother Ben's wedding. Here's a photo of the whole family, including Ben's new wife Mari.

Trip to the Americas

The three of us went to the Americas in early April: first to Texas, then Guatemala, then California, then Colorado, and back to Texas. It was Timothy's first overseas flight. He had the best seat on the airplane.

Quarterly visit to Tiembanga

My quarterly story on the family in Tiembanga is due at the end of April, but we will be in the States all month, so I did the interview this week.

With Marie leaving in June, I needed to find another Zarma-to-French translator (I translate the last step to English in my own head). I had already invited Auntie to come along because it was her day to come anyway to watch Timothy when it occurred to me... Auntie's mother tongue is Hausa, but she speaks Zarma, too! She has now agreed to be our new translator for future interviews -- how convenient is that?

So here we are, doing the interview. Marie is in the back of the photo, sitting on my left. Auntie is on my right, holding Tim.

Feeding challenges

I didn't think Tim was ready to sit in his high chair yet, so I've been feeding him using his "bouncy-chair." As you can see, he's about ready to climb out of it. So I transferred him to his infant/car seat. I guess his feet were too much of a temptation -- probably more so than the rice cereal I was trying to feed him. I think he's ready for his high chair.
